Princess Lashes

February 18, 2010

I’ve never been a big fan of Jordan. I will admit that my perceptions of her did change whilst with Peter Andre but after the breakup my negative impressions were confirmed. My housemate and dear friend Jenna Rattue finds her fascinating and enjoys both her books and television shows (each to their own) however, not wanting to leave the living room and retreat back to my cave, I decided to accompany her in watching What Katie Did Next (on ITV 2 Thursdays at 9.00pm if you’re interested).  I watched in awe as Katie manipulates the paps, I wouldn’t consider her a business woman but credit where credits due in her ability to remain in the press, especially after her negative experience in the jungle (I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here). As I continued watching I noticed that spent more time on the phone to her kids (Harvey, Junior and Princess). I understand that this is a programme about her as a “career woman” rather than a show purely about her family life and that selected clips are used and this is not an accurate representation of her life but nevertheless, I still found it quite shocking and sad.

Anyway, I’ll get to the point. The most shocking and horrifying part of the episode was when little Princess posed wearing Katie’s false eyelashes and lip gloss, which was encouraged by Katie as she proudly says to her two-year old daughter ”You’re a mini me!”. I found it to be irresponsible. Sure, I agree it’s fun for children to play around with make-up such as blusher and lipstick but for me the false eyelashes crossed a line promoting value to things that are inappropriate for a child. Not to mention the comparison of Jordan, a woman marketed as a sexualised object to an innocent child.

  1. Like you said I find her fascinating but I completely agree that it is horrific thhat Katie Price finds it acceptable to dress up her child in false eyelashes. I know little girls enjoy playing ‘dress-up’ but I think that Price has crossed a line with this and then posting photographs all over the internet. Makes me question her ideologies!
